An armed student was injured Monday morning after police in a Dallas, Texas, suburb were called to a school for a report of an active shooter, authorities said.
Mesquite Police officers arrived at the Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy high school campus before 9:00 a.m. (local time) and
“attempted to negotiate with the young man
,” according to a statement.
During that time period, the person was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries, police said.

No officers, teachers or students were injured.
The students were reunited with their families at a nearby church after the incident.
“We are grateful that
a tragedy was avoided and that nothing worse happened
,” Travis Block, spokesman for the Mesquite Fire Department, said at a press conference.
Police declined to identify the student or describe his injuries, but the school confirmed in a statement that the suspect who entered the campus armed is a student.
“Everyone on campus is safe and secure,” the school added.
