The residents of the end of rue de Bourgogne, in Orléans (Loiret), will be able to reconnect with a semblance of hope.
For two years, some of them have been evacuated and no longer have access to their accommodation.
A section of the street is closed off due to the risk of collapse of two houses, weakened by the presence of underground cavities.
They are deteriorating more and more, but the work is delayed while the insurers pass the buck.
However, the situation could be resolved.
The municipality took legal action and obtained in summary proceedings that the insurers and owners begin the work within 30 days, with a fine of 1,000 euros per day if they do not comply.
“We are waiting for concrete commitments”
The city wants to believe that this decision will speed things up.
“We want to move from a slow race to a speed race,” rejoices Olivier Geffroy, municipal councilor responsible for managing crises and major risks.
While remaining cautious about deadlines.
“What we expect is for everyone to take their part and for us to have concrete commitments, on the operating procedure, the choice of companies, the submission of files, etc.

The inhabitants, for their part, do not have too many illusions.
“We know that we still have another year, and it remains complicated,” reacts the owner of an apartment located opposite the damaged buildings, who was received by elected officials with other residents.
This project turns out to be very complex on a technical level, since it requires first strengthening the buildings neighboring the damaged buildings in order to avoid a “house of cards” effect which would have even more disastrous consequences for the neighborhood.
