The market town's 2023 volunteer award should be awarded to two committed individuals.
One of them, thoroughbred firefighter and district fire inspector Herbert Maurus, who has since retired, has already received the award.
Murnau – Last week, the certificate was presented to the second in the league, Rupert Nagel.
For many years, Nagel has been outstandingly and tirelessly committed to the community and to helping refugees.
Mayor Rolf Beuting is full of praise
After the official part of the award ceremony, Rupert Nagel didn't really know how to evaluate this award.
He has to think about that first.
Nagel said he was trying to see things positively now, said calmly and modestly.
He joked that he hadn't even received a certificate at the previous Federal Youth Games.
In his speech, Mayor Rolf Beuting was full of praise for the committed man, crediting him with drive, empathy and compassion.
Nagel proves that “true greatness” lies in the ability not to complain long and extensively, but to support people in times of need, concretely and practically, said the town hall boss and expressed his deep gratitude for Nagel's commitment.
Committed to the Murnau Miteinander association
Specifically, Nagel has been involved in the so-called Team 7 with the non-profit organization Murnau Miteinander, in the areas of social affairs, education and refugees, in the so-called Team 7 for years. With other committed people, he looks after the Radlspeicher project next to the James Loeb House.
Here, refugees and people with smaller budgets, such as holders of a leisure card, receive practical help: bicycles and household appliances can be purchased cheaply, and repairs are also offered.
A place where people work together and a social meeting place where people chat.
The proceeds are donated, Nagel revealed, to the People Helping Association or the Oliver Herbrich Foundation.
And to the local poor, as Beuting emphasized in his speech.
In the past ten years, around 800 bicycles had been issued, Nagel recalled.
