Update from February 19, 6:30 a.m.:

According to its own information, Russia has also taken full control of the coke and chemical plant in Avdiivka.

Russian state news agencies report this, citing the Defense Ministry.

On Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry said that although Russian troops had taken full control of the eastern Ukrainian city, Ukrainian units were still holed up in the factory on the northwestern outskirts of the city.

The fall of Avdiivka is Russia's biggest military success since May 2023, when invading forces captured the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut.

Zelensky pleased with support for Kiev in the Ukraine war

First report from February 19th:

Kiev - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj said he left the security conference in Munich satisfied.

“Our Ukrainian view of the global agenda was supported by our partners,” he said in his evening video address.

He received support for Ukraine in all of his discussions in Munich.

“And each of these conversations confirmed the core point as clearly as possible: it is Ukraine that can stop Putin and create the conditions for him to be punished for all the evil he has done.”

Success for Russia in the Ukraine war: withdrawal from Avdiivka officially ended

The Ukrainian armed forces have now declared their withdrawal from the city of Avdiivka complete.

The Ukrainian prosecutor's office responsible for the Donetsk region opened an investigation on Sunday after six wounded Ukrainian soldiers who could not be taken with them during the retreat were allegedly executed when captured by Russian soldiers.

As the investigators further announced on Telegram, they relied on video footage of the alleged crime recorded by drones.

“Since the occupier does not want to let the prisoners live, he deliberately kills them with automatic weapons,” it said.

The information could not be independently verified.

Putin sees war in Ukraine as a “matter of life or death”

According to Kremlin chief Putin, Russia considers the situation around Ukraine to be “vital”.

For the West, however, it is just a question of tactics, Putin said on Sunday in an interview on state television, from which the state agency

Tass

quoted.

While the West is taking tactical positions around Ukraine, for his country it is “a matter of fate, a question of life or death.”

If the West didn't get involved, "the war would have ended a year and a half ago."
