Ruins often have an air of abandonment about them.
But probably the most famous ruin in the world, located in Baden-Württemberg, is a notable exception.
Ruins are usually the remains of destroyed structures.
But behind this definition there are a variety of stories and meanings.
The spectrum ranges from houses destroyed in the war to the remains of ancient civilizations, such as the ruined city of Machu Picchu.
Many of these structures appear desolate and abandoned.
