Moscow/Washington – Former US President Donald Trump must be given credit for one thing: Amid the numerous international expressions of mourning over the death of Alexei Navalny, the Republican manages to stand out from the crowd with his statements about the Russian opposition figure.
With a crude comparison, he exploits Navalny's death for his own political interests in the USA.
Donald Trump was already criticized after Navalny's death because he initially did not comment.
The fact that Donald Trump wants to seal his return to the White House in the 2024 US election this year is currently being watched with concern around the world.
A second term for Trump as US President is now seen as a possible reality.
After Trump's NATO statement, geostrategic considerations that have hardly existed since the end of the Cold War are suddenly on the agenda.
It is still uncertain what influence Trump will have on world politics.
However, Navalny himself wrote that it could be “really scary” – in one of his last letters before his death.

writes that the Kremlin opponent watched Donald Trump's agenda from afar with concern in the campaign for the 2024 US election.
Despite isolation, the prisoner was apparently well informed about global political developments.
In a letter to photographer Evgeny Feldman shortly before his death, Navalny wrote of his thoughts on US politics: If US President Joe Biden has a health problem, “Trump will become president”.

However, when he was transferred to the Polarwolf penal camp a little later, Navalny's ability to communicate is said to have almost come to a standstill.

journalist Sergei Parkhomenko received a letter on February 13, a few days before Navalny's death.
In this, the prisoner spoke of books and said that he only had access to classics in his new prison.
Donald Trump comments on Navalny's death - and draws a comparison to US politics
While Navalny warned about Donald Trump before his death, he only spoke out several days after the incident in the Russian prison camp - without mentioning Russia or Vladimir Putin.
On his Truth Social platform, the former US president wrote: “The sudden death of Alexei Navalny has made me more and more aware of what is happening in our country.” The 77-year-old also added: “It is a slow, steady progression , with lying, radical left-wing politicians, prosecutors and judges leading us down a path of destruction.”
Trump was initially conspicuously silent after Navalny's death.
His competitor Nikki Haley criticized him heavily for this.
The 52-year-old demanded on US television that Trump had to answer whether he believed that Putin was responsible for Navalny's death.
“Either he's on Putin's side and thinks it's cool that Putin killed one of his political opponents, or he doesn't think it's that big of a deal.
Both are worrying.
Both are a problem.”

Against the backdrop of the US election and the Ukraine war, Trump's relationship with Vladimir Putin has been under scrutiny since Navalny's death.
The Republican has regularly made positive comments about Vladimir Putin in the past and has also given the impression that he admires the Russian president.
With his recent statements about the defense of NATO states, he has also questioned general security doctrine.
Unlike Trump, US President Joe Biden was very clear after Navalny's death and blamed Putin for it.
Although we don't know exactly what happened, there is no doubt that Navalny's death was a result of Putin's actions and those of his criminals, Biden said in the White House on Friday.
Putin poisoned Navalny, had him arrested and charged with trumped-up crimes and put him in solitary confinement.
But none of this stopped Navalny from denouncing lies, even in prison.
The Kremlin itself is sticking to its bizarre reaction to Navalny's death.
