“We are worried.” Victoria Hausler introduced the Auer Kolping family’s press conference in the parish hall on Monday.

The members are worried about its continued existence.

Au/Hallertau

- There is a great fear that is increasingly gripping the clubs in the Freising district: more and more of them have to seriously consider the scenario of dissolution because fewer and fewer people can imagine volunteering on the board.

230 members would be affected

However, the Au Kolping family does not want to give up so quickly, but is currently pulling out all the stops to fill the position of first chairman.

The urgent wish of Veronika Hausler, deputy chairwoman of the Auer Kolping Family: “After more than 100 years of existence, things simply have to continue!”

“I've been doing it for a very, very long time now,” explained Alfred Baur, who has done a lot of things as chairman of the Au Kolping family since 1996 and who no longer wants to stand in this year's new election.

In his opinion, it is really time for a change in leadership.

Of course, all potential candidates have been canvassed for a long time, but this has not led to success - nor has an appeal to all members.

“Many people are already active on a voluntary basis.

We don’t really know why we can’t find one,” emphasized Hausler, who has been the second chairwoman for nine years.

When asked why she doesn't sit in the executive chair herself, there is a simple answer: "We can't find anyone to replace her."

Just two requirements

What would happen in the worst case is of course clear to the board: the association, which has around 230 members, would have to dissolve - similar to what is currently happening with the Au Women's Association, which is also desperately looking for chairmen and cannot find one.

However, while the women's association has fallen into a state of shock, the Auer Kolping family is far from giving up, as the flyers on the table in the parish hall prove.

They say in large letters: “We want you – as 1st or 2nd board member in our team.”

But the information leaflet that is floating around everywhere is only part of the marketing strategy.

The press should also help ensure that the club can continue to exist.

“We just want to spread the word widely now, maybe someone will be found,” explained Hausler – possibly through an article in the local newspaper.

One possibility would be for someone to contact the Kolping Family who is not yet a member but would like to help shape things on the front line.

The advantage: A new member doesn't have to be there for many years to be elected as chairman - or as Baur put it: "It's possible right away." The only requirements: a desire for Kolping and being 18 years old.

Denomination plays no role at Kolping

“By the way, he or she doesn’t have to be Catholic, the denomination doesn’t matter,” explains Christa Peter, parish and ecumenical assessor.

And basically no one has to be afraid of the big club, emphasizes Hausler: “We are very well organized and structured, everything is possible.”

Alfred Baur calculated how much time a board of directors has to have: “That should be around ten hours a month for the chairman's pure work.” Of course, with the priest on site you should be able to, although the Au Kolping family is one is an independent association.

What Baur can tell everyone who is interested in the office: “You get an incredible amount in return, that’s the great thing.”
