Gilching and Geisenbrunn are not always happy - a relic from the regional reform.

The fact that a man from Gilching has now been unanimously elected commander of the Geisenbrunner fire department is something special.

Geisenbrunn/Gilching – “That makes me so happy,” Christian Kreisl cheered last week after his unanimous election as commander of the Geisenbrunn volunteer fire department.

On the one hand, he is looking forward to the challenge as Stephan Siegl's successor.

But what's more, as a native of Gilching, he served as commander in Geisenbrunn without any opposition.

A novelty worth mentioning.

Like many other communities that were merged with a larger neighboring community as part of the regional reform in 1974, this also applied to Argelsried with the Geisenbrunn district.

Much to the annoyance of the then mayor of Argelsried, Johann Dobmeier.

With the support of his council members, he resisted vehemently until the end.

Dobmeier also quickly commissioned the construction of 40 apartments and the Geisenbrunn leisure center in order to prevent “all our money from going to waste”.

All the resistance was of no use.

In 1978, the incorporation took place forcibly, which caused the mayor to say goodbye to it after 30 years of local politics.

The mistrust here and there has been cultivated for decades.

The people of Gilching were also not always necessarily well-disposed towards the people of Geisenbrunner.

For example, if the local elections were about a mayoral candidate who would now direct the fortunes of the community of Gilching with its districts of St. Gilgen, Argelsried and Geisenbrunn, a Geisenbrunner had no chance of being nominated, let alone being elected.

The proposal for a shared fire station was also briefly considered many years ago, but was immediately rejected due to the question of identity.

But now the Gilching native, who managed to become commander of the Geisenbrunner fire brigade, seems to have taken the first step towards leaving the ghosts of his great-grandfathers behind him.

Commander uncovers food abuses for a living

“Yes, I actually just wanted to thank you briefly for my unanimous election, but suddenly I blurted out that it was really a novelty that I was elected as a native of Gilching,” says Christian Kreisl happily.

So who is this new first commander?

Born in 1973, Christian Kreisl joined the Gilching Volunteer Fire Department at the age of 18.

“There was no youth fire brigade back then, so after a short training course I was fully involved.” He started his career at the Franz Jakob butcher shop in Altdorf and did his master’s degree there.

After 15 years, he moved to a butcher's shop in Munich and stayed there for another five years until he read an advertisement in which the city of Munich was looking for a specialist who would be interested in training to become a food inspector.

“I applied, was accepted, completed a two-year training course and have been working ever since to uncover grievances in the food sector.

This also includes tobacco, dishes and clothing.”

Four years ago he moved to Geisenbrunn with his family and, albeit with a heavy heart, switched to the Geisenbrunner Wehr: “I liked being with the Gilching Wehr, but we are now at home in Geisenbrunn and we also have a lot of friends here.” That he Kreisl emphasizes that being employed by the city of Munich as a civil servant benefits him as a commander.

“If I am needed for an important fire service operation, I am released at any time.”
