The future of ice sports in the city of Dachau is uncertain because the ice rink will have to make way for a new Georg Scherer hall.

The Alliance for Dachau is now calling for a “preliminary” city council committee for the decision on the ice rink.

Dachau – Well over 5,000 people have already taken part in the online petition “Ice for Dachau – Our city needs an artificial ice rink”.

The city council has received four proposals on this topic.

And the ESV Dachau itself, as the main affected party, has already publicly announced how it could imagine financing a new artificial ice rink.

At the end of March, Mayor Florian Hartmann told the local newspaper three weeks ago, the issue will be discussed in the city council's main and finance committee.

And then it should be clarified officially and ideally once and for all: Will the old artificial ice rink on Gröbenrieder Straße, which will have to make way for a new Georg Scherer hall in the medium term, be given a new location in the city in the long term?

A fifth application has now been added to the four existing city council applications.

For the sake of clarity, the Alliance for Dachau calls for a “preliminary advisory committee on the Dachau ice skating area”, which should explicitly meet before the crucial meeting of the main and finance committee.

The entire process is clearly of paramount public interest.

The city councilors of the Alliance for Dachau and the party

The alliance's justification is understandable: “The entire process is clearly of outstanding public interest and has given rise to the expectation among the population that the city council and the administration will work out a consensus-oriented solution that will enable ice skating in Dachau or the district in the long term ESV’s inclusion sport should continue to be maintained.”

According to Alliance city councilors Sabine Geißler, Kai Kühnel, Michael Eisenmann and their city council colleague Felix Beljung (The Party), this solution “can only be achieved through constructive cooperation between all factions”.

The proposed preliminary advisory committee should therefore consist of representatives of both the construction and the main and finance committees and should be composed according to the key for determining the committee seats.

A one-time committee should discuss applications to maintain or build a new ice rink in advance

Specifically, the committee, which is to be dissolved immediately after its first meeting, should deal with all the parliamentary groups' applications that have been received to maintain or build a new ice skating surface and "advise, weigh up and discuss them openly."

The public committee meeting should also “transparently explain” the status of the procedure to citizens and make the possibilities for ice skating it contain clear.

But not only the four existing applications - from Free Voters, CSU, ÜB/FDP and the alliance - should be discussed at the meeting, but also the online petition: What are their demands?

To what extent could these be incorporated into the city's planning?

ESV wants to take care of crowdfunding

The alliance also takes up the ESV's idea of looking for external financial partners in view of the city's lack of money: the preliminary advisory committee should "examine the various options for an operating company" and "make efforts to find alternative financing options and search for possible funding sources." activate these too”.

And finally - after years of exhaustive discussion - the question of location should be raised again or "possible alternative locations" should be examined as the last area considered at the southern end of the ASV site.

The city administration is processing the four applications received so far

When and how the city council can vote on this idea is up to the administration.

The town hall employees are currently still busy processing the four applications received so far.

As reported, the Free Voters Dachau and “We” had called for “immediate, concrete planning to ensure the existence of the artificial ice rink”.

The CSU had proposed building the new artificial ice rink at a “cost-reduced” level – in the form of an open ice rink, with toilets and changing rooms being housed in containers.

ÜB/FDP, on the other hand, wanted to ensure that a new Scherer hall would be built in any case - even if this “prioritization” was at the expense of ice sports.

Finally, the Alliance for Dachau had commissioned the mayor to ask the district municipalities whether there was any interest in establishing a special-purpose association, within which the district municipalities would contribute financially to the new construction of the ice rink.

However, as expected, the communities' interest in this has so far been modest.

In Odelzhausen and Röhrmoos, for example, where the issue has been on the local council agenda in recent days, the proposal was unanimously rejected in each case.

There is simply “no financial scope” for cost sharing in the Dachau project.
