How good are artificial intelligences at local political issues?

The Tagblatt did the test.

District

- You can read it everywhere: Chatbots with artificial intelligence (AI) like ChatGPT will massively change our everyday lives.

The data used to train the AI comes primarily from Internet sources such as Wikipedia, news sites and portals for scientific articles.

But what about local political knowledge with artificial intelligence?

The Tagblatt did the test and asked two AIs about the mayors in the Blue Land.

The result: ChatGPT is pretty much a total failure in this regard, Perplexity performs far better.

ChatGPT has to pass the question about the Murnau town hall boss on the first attempt.

“Sorry, but I don't have any current information about the mayor of Murnau.

To find the current incumbent, I recommend you consult the city of Murnau’s official website or a local news source.”

The second attempt works better - with additional information about the zip code.

ChatGPT names Rolf Beuting, but the AI chatbot incorrectly describes him as non-partisan.

The third round goes completely wrong.

The AI claims that a Marc Rückert (independent) is Murnau's community leader.

Perplexity is better informed.

The chatbot has the right name right away.

Perplexity is also in the lead when it comes to the deputy mayor and immediately correctly announces that Dr.

Julia Stewens (Free Voters) holds the office.

ChatGPT names one Petra Wiedemann (CSU).

Who is Benjamin Kiefersauer?

What about Riegsee?

The answer that ChatGPT has to offer is, well, not entirely true.

"My information goes up to January 2022, and at that time Rolf Beuting was the mayor of Murnau am Staffelsee, which also includes Riegsee." The next attempt doesn't get any better: ChatGPT thinks it knows that the boss in the Riegsee town hall - as of January 2022 – a Benjamin Kiefersauer (Free Voters).

Perplexity, on the other hand, gives the correct answer: Jörg Steinleitner (Riegsee electoral community).

But Perplexity isn't perfect either.

When asked about the mayor of Schwaigen, the KI names Jörg Steinleitner.

ChatGPT once again turns out to be a total failure: “The mayor of Schwaigen is Peter Rist (independent).”

Let's look at Seehausen.

Perplexity knows that Markus Hörmann (CSU) leads the community's fortunes.

Different ChatGPT: “The mayor of Seehausen am Staffelsee is Hubert Mangold.” Not true.

As is well known, Mangold is the head of the town hall in Schwaigen.

Another attempt also fails.

ChatGPT names an Alexander Specht.

ChatGPT also turns out to be ignorant when it comes to Uffing.

As of January 2022, Lorenz Miehling was the mayor.

Perplexity once again proves to be better informed: the AI correctly names Andreas Weiß.

The name of the mayor of Spatzenhausen also comes straight out of the gun at Perplexity: Aloisia Gastl from the Free Voters' Community.

ChatGPT, on the other hand, is again clueless.

At least the first letter of the first name is correct: Antonia Rieger.

A glimmer of hope

If you look at Eschenlohe, there is a small glimmer of hope: ChatGPT correctly answers the question about the community leader with Anton Kölbl, but says he belongs to the Free Voters.

But the CSU would be correct.

Perplexity is once again exemplary and correctly states the name and party.

This AI also knows that Christian Scheuerer is the mayor of Ohlstadt.

ChatGPT fails again across the board: “As far as I know, the mayor of Ohlstadt is Thomas Sappl (independent).”

Things aren't getting any better when it comes to Großweil.

ChatGPT wants to make the user believe that a Georg Weigl holds the office.

On a second attempt it says: “Sorry for the misunderstanding.

The mayor of Großweil with the zip code 82439 is Michael Loth (Free Voters).” But ChatGPT can console itself.

In this case, Perplexity is also wrong: the AI names Anton Kölbl.
