The number of vehicles in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district is growing.

However, new registrations of electric cars have fallen significantly.

There are reasons for that.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen – The number of vehicles in the district is growing.

This is shown by a look at the district office's admission statistics.

126,483 vehicles - from cars to trailers to tractors and motorcycles - were registered in Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen at the beginning of 2024.

Almost 1,700 more than a year before.

The proportion of purely electric vehicles is still low.

Trend in new registrations: falling.

There are reasons for the decline in electric cars

814 purely electric vehicles were registered in the district in 2023.

Compared to the previous year, this means a decrease of over 200 vehicles.

There are also 185 plug-in hybrid vehicles with a combined drive of gasoline or diesel and externally rechargeable electric storage.

In this area too, the number from the previous year was significantly higher at 379.

The decline in new registrations of electric vehicles can be explained by the fact that the subsidy for electric cars was significantly reduced last year before it was suddenly stopped completely at the end of the year at very short notice.

There was no longer any federal funding for plug-in hybrids in 2023.

537 purely electric vehicles were also taken out of service.

A total of 2,577 vehicles were running on electricity in the district at the end of last year.

There were also 1,319 plug-in hybrid vehicles.

In total, there were 5,493 registrations of brand-new vehicles last year - private and commercial are roughly balanced.

In the previous year there were 6,180 new registrations.

There was a significant decline in motorcycles.

At 525, there were 383 fewer in 2023 than in the previous year.

The number of newly registered special vehicles rose (from 106 to 148).

This includes, among other things, mobile homes.

Exactly the same number of trucks were newly registered in both years, 305.

This also applies to buses with a new registration in this area.

A vehicle with a hydrogen fuel cell is registered

Most newly registered vehicles (1942) run on gasoline, 1,102 run on diesel.

23 rely on petrol/liquefied gas.

Exotic: A vehicle with a hydrogen fuel cell was registered in 2022.

Last year there was a zero for this type of drive.

937 vehicles rely on a combination of petrol/diesel and electric motor, which cannot be charged externally.

At the end of 2022, the registration office moved from the district office to the neighboring “Schnecke” on Flinthöhe.

This “significantly improved the situation in the waiting area,” explains Marlis Peischer, press spokeswoman for the district office, when asked.

“Together with the tried-and-tested appointment booking system, which is well used, only very short waiting times are necessary, which causes less annoyance and should be in the interests of the customers.” The new premises would also improve the situation for the employees and lead to less frustration.

“Furthermore, modern workplaces have been created, which enable us to deal with the concerns of our citizens, both in the areas of vehicle registration and driving licenses,” says Peischer.

In March, the second part of the subject area will move to the second floor of the “Schnecke”, so that “everything will be together again spatially”.

Citizens from other districts also come to the Tölzer registration office

By the way, the registration office is extremely popular not only with citizens from the district - but also beyond.

Twelve districts joined together to form an approval alliance a few years ago.

Since then, people from the districts of Altötting, Berchtesgadener Land, Fürstenfeldbruck, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Miesbach, Mühldorf am Inn, Munich, Rosenheim, Starnberg, Traunstein and the city of Rosenheim have been able to register their vehicles in Bad Tölz or Wolfratshausen - and vice versa.

13,081 vehicles were registered for other districts last year.

The good thing about it: “The financial revenue generated from approvals remains with the respective district office and is included in the district’s budget.

This makes the registration and driving license office one of the few areas in the district office where part of the operating costs are covered by income,” says Peischer.

The number of approval processes is actually so high that the district committee approved an additional clerk position for this year at its January meeting.

The rush for approvals for other districts would possibly be even higher if there had not been a restriction since autumn 2023.

With the expanded responsibility, the registration office not only carries out private registrations, “but also provides a large number of so-called registration services.

These usually allow several vehicles at once,” says Peischer.

“So that registration services in the Bad Tölz and Wolfratshausen registration offices are allowed to register the vehicles at all, the regulation was introduced last autumn that at least one vehicle must be registered to one person in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district.” (
