In the district committee there was talk of extended notice periods for businesses at the commercial center - but that is wrong.

After a miscommunication, numerous companies at Ostbahnhof are angry.

At the commercial center at Ostbahnhof the announced notice periods remain.

The first companies have to leave the building at the end of June, explains the Munich-based Gewerbehof- und Technologiezentrumsgesellschaft mbH (MGH).

The rest must be out by the end of the year.

“Everyone knows exactly when they have to move out.”

There are different move-out dates

The background for the miscommunication by the Berg am Laim district committee is apparently the different move-out dates that are due to the different rental agreements, each with different deadlines.

In addition, the commercial yard will not be demolished in one fell swoop, but will first be gutted so that the problematic materials can be disposed of separately.

Only then will the site be cleared for the planned new building.

The affected tenants are pretty angry about the eviction.

They describe MGH's behavior as unfair and unprofessional.

This means you won't receive any answers to calls or emails.

The operators of several fitness and sports studios in particular complain that no acceptable replacement space has been offered, as promised, and that they are simply not wanted in other commercial areas.

They consider the argument that they don't fit into the concept of a commercial center because they are not a manufacturing industry to be fake.

Farms are reserved for crafts and manufacturing industries

Not at all, says Beate Krauss from the MGH commercial farm management.

“The commercial yards are reserved solely for crafts and manufacturing industries.” This is the official mandate that the MGH as a municipal company has to fulfill.

“We are the only city that can afford something like this for a lot of money.” The city council would have to expressly decide to expand it to other target groups - such as the creative laboratory for cultural workers, for which there are already long waiting lists.

Many craftsmen are also looking.

The SPD/Volt parliamentary group has just submitted an application package for craft businesses.

Among other things, a concept for a pure craftsmen's farm is to be presented so that businesses can also find suitable space in Munich.

This is how they want to keep crafts and production in the city.

That's why the MGH cannot rent space in commercial yards to companies that don't fit into the concept, explains Krauss.

Renting to others was a gesture of goodwill

The Ostbahnhof was only rented to others “as a courtesy”.

Because it is difficult for companies to find something in Munich.

“Normally they would never have been allowed into a commercial property.” A concession from which no obligation can now be derived.

Those affected would also have known exactly that the Ostbahnhof was only used temporarily.

The artists would have signed all the eviction acknowledgments.

“They were allowed to stay there even when the demolition was postponed.” Overall, the companies used very cheap space for years.

“That was a gift from us.” But now we need new and more space for workshops.
