The European Parliament will be re-elected in June.

While the AfD is making significant gains, things are looking bleak for the traffic light parties.

Here you can find the current polls for the European elections.

Berlin/Brussels – The European Parliament election in Germany is scheduled for June 9th.

It is part of the EU-wide European elections in 2024. The parliament has a total of 720 seats, of which Germany occupies 96.

There is no legal barrier clause, which means that there is only a mathematical percentage hurdle of around 0.5 percentage points.

In the 2019 European elections, seven parties won seats with a vote share of well under five percent.

Current surveys for the 2024 European elections in Germany

A current survey on the 2024 European elections in Germany indicates an increasing trend towards conservative and right-wing parties.

At the beginning of February, more than half of those surveyed said they would vote for the conservative Union parties or the right-wing populist AfD.

In contrast, two parties in the traffic light coalition must expect particularly disappointing results based on current trends.

According to a survey by the opinion research institute Insa, which

was commissioned by

t-online , the CDU and CSU are currently the strongest force with 27 percent of the vote.

Immediately after comes the right-wing populist AfD with 22 percent, which would double its share compared to the 2019 election.

The Greens and FDP lose in the current survey for the 2024 European elections

The biggest losers in the survey are two of the traffic light parties, which performed particularly poorly compared to the 2019 election results.

Instead of over 20 percent, the Greens only have 10.5 percent, the FDP is only at three percent instead of around 5.5.

The SPD also achieved a weak result in the survey at 16 percent, which is, however, quite close to its share of the vote in 2019.

According to the survey, the new alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) is comparatively strong at 5.5 percent in its first election participation, while the Left is just below at 4.5 percent.

Around 11.5 percent of those surveyed said they wanted to vote for a different party.

The lack of a threshold clause, which was overturned by the Federal Constitutional Court for the European elections, could ensure that the results are sufficient for individual representatives from Germany to enter the European Parliament.

Current surveys before the 2024 European elections: Conservatives are ahead across the EU

The election in Germany will take place on July 9th.

This year the voting age in the European elections was lowered to 16 across the EU.

In Germany, not only German citizens, but also people living here with a passport from another EU member state can cast their vote.

Election surveys are also regularly evaluated in other EU countries before the 2024 European elections.

The scientist and Europe expert Manuel Müller, for example, regularly publishes an analysis of the latest EU-wide figures.

According to his calculations, the conservative EPP party group, to which the Union parties belong, would be the strongest force with 169 seats, followed by the social democratic parties with 141 seats.

This is followed by the right-wing populist ID faction with 89 seats, the greatly weakened liberal RE faction with 86 seats and the left-wing parties with 33 seats.
