The Dietramszell local council recently spoke out against a water dispenser in the town center.

The main argument is that it’s too expensive.

Now citizen Birgit Suttner wants to cover the costs.

Dietramszell – “The costs for the village renewal ran into the millions,” complains Birgit Suttner.

“And now 1,000 euros for a water dispenser is too much.” The 66-year-old cannot understand that.

With a donation she wants to help ensure that the drinking water fountain on the Angerwiese is built.

Dietramszell: Citizen wants to donate for drinking water fountains -

As reported, the local council voted against a water dispenser at its January meeting by twelve votes to six.

The main argument was too expensive.

As project initiator Hubert Prömmer explained to his council colleagues, state funding for such systems is up to 90 percent.

The costs for the village renewal ran into the millions.

And now 1000 euros for a water dispenser is too much.

With a purchase price of around 6,500 to 10,000 euros net for a fountain made of stainless steel or stone, the community would only have to pay around 1,000 euros in addition, he calculated.

However, assembly and maintenance were not included.

When Birgit Suttner read about it in our newspaper, she was “very irritated” by the rejection, she says in an interview with the editorial team.

What she found particularly incomprehensible was Karl Johann März's argument: people could refill their water bottles in the toilet of the pub opposite “for a small tip”.

“It’s closed on Monday and Tuesday,” says Suttner.

In addition, one cannot seriously want “everyone to trample in and out of there just to get water”.

There are now water dispensers everywhere there are tourists.

He could also encourage the schoolchildren waiting nearby for the bus to get something to drink.

The Franconian, who grew up in England, has lived with her husband on a farm in Untermühltal for over 20 years and raised sheep there.

She says she enjoys cycling herself and always sees day-trippers riding past her house on the weekends.

“The new history trail invites even more people than before to sit on the bench there.

A water dispenser is a great upgrade.”

It didn't occur to her that they wanted to forego it in order to save 1000 euros.

She spontaneously spoke to Prömmer, who lived nearby, and offered to donate 2,000 euros to the community to build the well.

“You have to think collectively,” she explains and adds with a smile: “I would rather donate than give the money to the tax office.”

Citizen is committed to drinking water fountains - she wants to volunteer to ensure cleanliness and hygiene

She would have found it even nicer if the newly created square at the junction of the state road to Holzkirchen had had a fountain.

This was actually planned for in the village renewal plans, but was not implemented for cost reasons.

A drinking water dispenser could be a replacement, she says: “It only runs at the push of a button and is turned off in winter.

It’s not a waste.”

It is still questionable what the operating maintenance would cost.

“That’s why I agreed to volunteer to ensure cleanliness and hygiene,” says the woman from Untermühltal.

According to their information, the annual water test only costs around 100 euros.

“I’ll take that on if necessary.”

But even if the community were to get it practically for free, they can't simply build the water dispenser.

Because: The project has already been rejected by the local councils.

That applies now.

But because “fundamental new findings” have emerged, Hubert Prömmer wants to submit a request to put his project back on the agenda.

He announced this when asked by our newspaper.

The councils can then discuss the pros and cons again at one of their next meetings.
