The proportion of electric cars among new registrations in the district is increasing.

More than one in four new cars last year had an electric drive.

Fürstenfeldbruck – However, so-called plug-in hybrids have become slow sellers.

And there is a reason for that.

Of the 5,667 cars registered in the district in 2023, 1,587 have an electric drive.

That's 28 percent.

In 2022 the value was still 26 percent.

Since fewer cars were registered overall, the absolute number of new electric cars also fell.

In 2022, 6,267 new cars were registered.

Of these, 1,630 were electric.

The proportion of electric cars among all currently registered cars in the district is still very low, despite the relative increase.

Only every 20th car is electric.

These numbers are based on statistics from the district office.

Plug in

What stands out among new registrations is the ratio between cars with purely electric drives and with so-called plug-in hybrid drives.

These have both a combustion engine and an electric motor.

The battery can also be charged externally.

While in 2022 there were 668 vehicles with plug-in drives and thus 40 percent of the total registered electric cars, things looked completely different last year: Of the 1,587 newly registered cars with electric drives, 285 were with plug-in drives and the rest are purely electric vehicles – that’s only 18 percent.

This slump can be explained by the loss of funding for hybrid cars, says Wilhelm Brugglehner, managing director of the Rasch car dealership in Fürstenfeldbruck.

“The manufacturers basically had to readjust, so there wasn’t as much choice in this area.” At the same time, the plug-in hybrid vehicles available for sale would no longer be as attractive without the funding.

Brugglehner also has an explanation for the overall decline in new registrations.

“On the one hand, the war in Ukraine, customers are unsettled.

On the other hand, inflation and increased energy costs.

Of course, the end consumer holds their wallet together.”

Financial support

Overall, the sales figures for electric vehicles in car dealerships are fairly consistent, estimates Brugglehner.

The numbers would probably fall in the current year.

“That has a lot to do with the fact that the funding stopped at the end of 2023,” says Brugglehner.

The so-called environmental bonus was discontinued by the federal government on December 18th.

Nevertheless, Brugglehner is optimistic about the sale of electric cars.

It's not just companies that would convert their fleets.

“Private individuals also want electric drives,” says the managing director.

The topic of “reach” is often a concern in the discussions.

That's why he always advises customers to test driving an electric car first.
