Fire in the anchor center for refugees at the air base: On Monday afternoon, a room in the initial reception center was on fire.

The residents of one wing of the building had to be evacuated.

Fürstenfeldbruck – The police assume there is a technical defect.

On Monday shortly before 2 p.m. the fire broke out in a room at the asylum reception center.

An ambulance that happened to be nearby was the first to arrive at the air base, reports Bruck's fire department commander Michael Ott.

And it was fine like that.

Because it was immediately clear that this time it was not a false alarm from a fire alarm, but that there was actually a fire.

Accordingly, many firefighters rushed out - in Fürstenfeldbruck alone a good 30 women and men.

The Bruck army moved out from both stations and the comrades from Emmering also rushed over.

Since the fire spread to other rooms, the fire departments from Aich and Puch were called in.

Around 60 emergency services fought together against the flames.

Source of fire

Finding the source of the fire wasn't that easy at first, says Ott.

The teams had to fight their way through thick black smoke with heavy breathing apparatus and first search for the burning room.

While some were extinguishing the fire, others were looking for people in the adjacent residential units.

But everyone was outside and uninjured.

Security service

This is thanks to the security service, which ensured a rapid evacuation of the affected part of the building immediately after the fire alarm system sounded the alarm, emphasizes a spokesman for the government of Upper Bavaria, which is responsible for the anchor center.

Two security guards who had inhaled smoke required treatment.

The criminal police have started investigating the cause of the fire.

When asked, a spokeswoman for the Upper Bavaria North police headquarters explains that it is currently assumed that there is a technical defect.

The ground floor of one wing of the building is not habitable, according to the government spokesman.

Around 20 residents were able to move to other areas within the accommodation.

An external relocation was not necessary.

The upper floor of the affected part of the building was reopened by the fire department after the operation.

The residents were able to return to their rooms on Monday.

Everyone behaved very cooperatively, reports Commander Michael Ott.

The firefighters were on duty for over three and a half hours.

Ott emphasizes that it was unusual for him to be able to rely on so many fire rescue workers during working hours on a working day.

“30 to 35 people in Fürstenfeldbruck alone during the day, that’s quite an achievement.”
