Make someone happy by avoiding waste, by donating an object that you would otherwise have thrown away.

This is the basic concept of Geev, a website and a mobile application allowing you to

“give and collect objects near you in a few clicks”

.

This Bordeaux platform, created in 2017 and now having users throughout France, already has more than five million users.

Geev estimates that it has enabled around 25 million donations to be made, thus avoiding the emission of 180,000 tonnes of CO2.

“Every year in France, nine million tonnes of still usable objects are thrown away by homes, and the amount of unsold non-food items amounts to four billion euros

,” explains the platform, free and easy to use, who intends to remedy it in his own way.

On Geev, after choosing a distance (from one to 50 kilometers), you can find everything from a backpack to ski gloves, including puzzles, furniture, mugs and cutlery , but also food.

Many offers are made and it is possible to

“reserve”

the donation before going to collect it.

Building on its success, the platform is aiming for new horizons.

At the start of 2024, Geev announced a fundraising of 4.5 million euros.

Funding which will in particular allow the application to develop an offer for professionals in the retail sector, preventing objects taken back by companies from ending up thrown away.

This sum gives the circular economy company

“the means to accelerate the growth of our community and to continue to dream that we will soon be able to grow it on a very, very large scale”

, estimates Hakim Baka, co-founder of Geev.

150 million euros saved

“The success of this operation demonstrates the continued interest of investors in Geev and its model, which is both unique and perfectly in line with the new expectations of citizens, always more receptive to responsible consumption and the preservation of the power of purchase

,” says La French Tech Bordeaux.

Since the launch of the application, more than 150 million euros have in fact been saved by users of the application, while making it possible to avoid buying new and extending the life of certain objects.

The “Geev Pro” offer, whose marketing will be accelerated thanks to this fundraising, offers two services: a

“recovery by donation”

solution already integrated into certain brands such as Conforama, allowing customers to easily give away their old products when purchasing a new one, as well as

“pro accounts”

in the mobile application,

“allowing “retailers” to give away or sell stocks of unsold, obsolete products at a reduced price and non-marketable

.
