Lufthansa is in a state of emergency: a warning strike is causing chaos and numerous flight cancellations.
The consequences are serious and affect over 100,000 passengers.
Munich – Lufthansa passengers will also face challenges at Munich Airport on Tuesday, February 20th.
A new warning strike at the company has led to a large number of flight cancellations since Monday evening.
Lufthansa estimates that more than 100,000 customers could be affected.
The strike is scheduled to last until 7:10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21st in certain areas of the company.
As a rule, the strike should end on Wednesday night.
Ground staff on warning strike
According to the Verdi union, employees from Lufthansa's technology, logistics, freight and IT departments went on warning strike on Monday evening.
Ground staff in Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn and Stuttgart were also asked to stop work on Tuesday.
The company expects hundreds of flight cancellations.
More than 50 connections were canceled at the most important hub in Frankfurt on Monday evening.
Only a few intercontinental flights were still scheduled to take off.
The airline plans to operate only 10 to 20 percent of its planned program of around 1,000 flights on Tuesday.
Munich Airport advises affected travelers not to come to the airport
Munich Airport warned of significant restrictions.
A current notice can be read on the Munich Airport website: “The Ver.di union has called on the ground staff of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Lufthansa Technik, Lufthansa Cargo and other companies to go on a 35-hour warning strike.
Due to the strike, there are also significant restrictions and flight cancellations at Munich Airport.
Passengers affected by flight cancellations as a result of the Verdi strike will be informed by Lufthansa by email or via the Lufthansa app.”

Airports that are not on strike are also affected: In Hanover and Bremen, all Lufthansa flights to and from Munich have been canceled.

During the first wave of warning strikes about two weeks ago, around 900 flights were canceled and more than 100,000 passengers had to change their plans.
Lufthansa advised passengers on canceled flights not to come to the airport because the rebooking counters there were not staffed.

Around 20,000 Lufthansa employees on strike
The warning strike is in connection with the group-wide collective bargaining for, according to Verdi, around 25,000 ground employees - including Deutsche Lufthansa, Lufthansa Technik, Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services and Lufthansa Engineering and Operational Services (Leos).
Lufthansa itself speaks of around 20,000 employees.
Collective bargaining is scheduled to continue on Wednesday.
Verdi described the second wave of warning strikes as necessary because Lufthansa had shown no willingness to improve its current offer in the previous round of negotiations.
