FC Perlach wants to make the Bergfreunde hut on Roßfeld accessible to all members.

But they protest.

Finally, they renovated the cabin with a lot of love and money.

Munich/Brunnthal

– It's about disappointment, separation and a new start.

It's about the FC Perlach 1925, "Bergfreunde" department, which no longer exists because its members resigned at the end of last year and immediately founded their own club: the Berg- und Naturfreunde eV. The background is a dispute over the use of one Hut on Roßfeld, which the mountain friends have painstakingly prepared and maintained for decades.

The “Hafnerkaser” hut

Engelbert Hogen sits at the living room table in his family home in Brunnthal-Waldbrunn.

In front of you, neatly sorted, are lots of stacks of paper, printed emails, correspondence, statements, numerous photos.

Hogen, 80 years old, was chairman of the “Mountain Friends” department.

A 25-member group whose sole purpose was to use and maintain the “Hafnerkaser” hut on Roßfeld, about 15 minutes by car from Berchtesgaden.

Over 214,000 euros invested

This hut is also a kind of reason for life for Hogen and his wife Lydia; since 1971, they and their “mountain friends” have invested a lot of money into expanding, renovating and maintaining the “Hafnerkaser”.

Lydia Hogen (74) listed everything meticulously; they invested a total of 214,761 euros.

FC Perlach, the official tenant of the hut, had guaranteed the mountain friends their independence by statute in 1989, says Engelbert Hogen.

An agreement that worked well for a long time: after that, only members of the Bergfreunde used the hut.

Anyone who wanted to become a mountain lover first had to spend a year familiarizing themselves with the special features of the “Hafnerkaser”.

Not an end in itself, but above all a “pure security measure,” says Hogen.

The correct handling of the “wood stove and oil stove”, handling gas bottles, draining water to make pipes frost-proof – this required comprehensive instruction.

Just “letting strangers in” like that?

For Engelbert Hogen “impossible”.

Elaborately renovated and prepared: The mountain friends have put a lot of love, but also a lot of money, into repairing and maintaining the mountain hut.

The non-profit thing

The trouble started for Engelbert Hogen's group in 2021, when the then club boss Thomas Scharl wanted to make the mountain hut accessible to all club members; a corresponding change to the statutes was planned.

An impossibility for Hogen, and not just for the aforementioned safety reasons.

“We would then just have been caretakers there.”

There will be a meeting on May 23, 2023, among other things.

In a written summary from the board of directors, Thomas Scharl, Michael Hollmayer and treasurer Robert Braun to the Bergfreunde, the desire for a hut is justified, among other things, by the fact that “the idea of non-profit status in general aims to make non-profit organizations and their facilities accessible to the general public close".

And: “We therefore ask you to explain why certain members should be excluded from using the hut.” But for Engelbert Hogen it is clear: “If they get the hut, we will clear it out.”

Lease was terminated

However, it doesn't get that far.

The Bavarian State Forests, as the hut owner, terminated FC Perlach's lease on June 2nd as of December 31st, 2023. Reason: "operational use of the hut by the forestry company".

Hogen says: “We have always gotten along well with the forestry company.” The Mountain and Nature Friends Association wants to run a hut again, possibly the “Hafnerkaser” hut again.

Discussions are underway with the Berchtesgaden State Forests.

FC board: “There was no dispute”

At the request of the Münchner Merkur, board member Michael Hollmayer explains, among other things, “that from our point of view there was or is no dispute with the 'Mountain Friends' department.

Unfortunately, this is probably presented this way for personal reasons unknown to us.

The problem regarding the 'Hafnerkaser' hut results, on the one hand, from the efforts of the board of FC Perlach to make the hut accessible to all members.

Because: “FC Perlach was always the tenant of the hut as a club.”

And yes: In the summer of last year, five coaches/supervisors actually left the athletics department and the club.

However, this happened due to personal decisions of those affected and “not in connection with internal conflicts”.

“We then found new trainers as quickly as possible.”

FC Perlach is also “by no means in a crisis”.

The club would be on solid ground financially and organizationally.

Changes within the board have been made to better align the club with the future.

“Unfortunately, this was no longer possible under the previous board,” said Hollmayer.
