Chubut
went to court this Tuesday to stop the measure adopted by the Nation to cut the Public Transportation Compensation Fund, which implied in practical terms
the end of Casa Rosada subsidies for transportation rates in the Interior.
As Clarín had anticipated, Governor Ignacio Torres signed the request for urgent judicial action in the face of what he denounced as a
"unilateral cut to the Public Transportation Compensation Fund by the National State."
The request, spokespersons stated, requires immediate judicial response
"to preserve constitutional rights and sustainability of passenger transportation in the province."
In the text, the province of Chubut argues that the measure adopted by the Executive Branch
violates the 2021 Fiscal Pact and
principles of concerted federalism.
And the National State is required to refrain from reducing or eliminating the fund and cover the associated legal costs.
The government maintained that the relationship between the Nation and the province "is based on bilateral agreements to provide financial assistance to public transportation."
In addition, they considered that
the decision, called "unilateral", violates "principles of good faith and federal loyalty"
and "affects the local economy."
The Compensation Fund implied state assistance that translated into a 55% discount on the public transport ticket fare.
Clarín had revealed days ago that the claim of Torres, one of the new faces among the PRO governors, was also endorsed by
Othar Macharashvili,
mayor of Comodoro Rivadavia of Unión por la Patria, who warned that that area "is the most affected by the extent".
