The extension to the Tölzer Jahnschule is finished: The hybrid building made of layered concrete and solid wood impresses with bright rooms and modern technology.

There will be an open day on Saturday.

Bad Tölz - Mayor Ingo Mehner and town hall spokeswoman Birte Stahl were impressed during the press tour of the new rooms of the extension (28 to 57 meters) of the Tölzer Jahn elementary and middle school.

A new auditorium, gymnasium, changing rooms, classrooms, specialist rooms and a place for lunchtime care have been built there on a net area of 2,140 square meters.

There is also a modern rehearsal room that the city band uses.

Special view: Classroom with a view of the mountains and the Tölzer Mühlfeldkirche

In one of the new, perfectly equipped classrooms with whiteboards and smartboards, digital writing boards, Mehner sat down and let his gaze wander through the large window into the distance: “That’s wonderful,” he sighed.

You can see the city backdrop with the Mühlfeld Church in front of snow-capped mountain peaks.

Stahl chimed in with a smile: “We should move town hall operations here during the holiday season.”

The enthusiasm of the two city representatives was easy to understand when inspecting the extension building.

A modern educational facility in a pleasant atmosphere has clearly been created for the 199 primary school students.

In 2020, the planners developed a concept that can now be found in every nook and cranny of the new building and blends harmoniously with the existing building from the 1930s.

The landmark of the Tölzer Jahnschule, the onion dome, is visually reflected in the facade

This can be seen, for example, in the Jahnschule's landmark: the striking onion dome.

Its shingle roof is visually reflected in the facade of the extension.

Speaking of external appearance: In order to create a contrast to the white-painted old building, the extension is discreetly accented in beige.

“It fits together well,” emphasized city architect Florian Ernst during a tour of the building.

In general, the color design plays a central role in and on the house, “so that everything is as if it were all of a piece,” said Ernst, who described the idea as an “ensemble effect.”

“It runs like a common thread through the school.” The walls in the classrooms and hallways are made of light spruce wood, as is the students’ cloakroom.

Here everyone even has their own little wooden box, similar to a locker.

And the rubber floor coverings are uniformly light gray.

The auditorium of the Jahnschule: It connects the old and the new building.

Particularly easy to recognize by the characteristic arcades of the historic school building.

“Interlocking of tradition and modernity” can be seen particularly in the auditorium of the Tölzer Jahnschule

The exception is the auditorium in the entrance area of the school, the floor there is made of mastic asphalt.

The “interlocking” of tradition and modernity is particularly evident here - recognizable in the arcades of the old building, which have been preserved.

While Ernst was talking about it, a projector and an electrically powered screen whirred into position.

“In the past, someone had to bring the overhead projector on a trolley,” said Stahl from her school days.

Next to the auditorium, where there used to be a storage room with oil tanks, there is now a so-called chillout lounge, equipped with a climbing cave, comfortable seating areas and cushions as well as stacks of board games.

Good acoustics: The new rehearsal room of the Tölzer Stadtkapelle in the Jahngschule.

Next stop, the city band's new rehearsal room: There is space for up to 60 musicians.

The special thing: “There are many acoustic elements to be able to direct the sound in the best possible way,” said Ernst.

For example, through wooden sails hanging from the ceiling.

The room is also suitable for sound recordings.

“I'm already looking forward to the next CD from the city band.” The room is also space-saving: drums, tuba and tambourine can easily be stored in wooden cupboards built into the walls.

The new gymnasium in the Jahnschule: The area is 570 square meters.

In addition to students, local clubs also use the sports facility.

The Jahnschule gymnasium is well utilized: In addition to students, the local sports clubs also use it

Another highlight, the new six and a half meter high gymnasium (15 by 27 meters), which was sunk into the ground so that the building as a whole would not be too high, as Ernst explained.

By the way, it's not just the students who benefit from the sports facility, local sports clubs such as the Tölzer Capricorns also train there in the evenings, says Stahl.

Overall, the hall is “well utilized”.

On the upper floor of the new building there is a modern school teaching kitchen, lunchtime care and a tea kitchen as well as two specialist rooms and two classrooms.

Rooms and hallways are divided by large glass fronts, but are not separated.

Thanks to the architectural trick, the central aisles between the rooms also receive enough daylight throughout the day.

In addition, insights into the rooms were desired, said Ernst.

The new playground at the Tölzer Jahnschule is 2,800 square meters in size – completion in mid-April

While all the work inside has been completed, the excavators are still digging in the playground.

“We are working hard on the outdoor facilities,” reported Ernst.

The 2,800 square meter playground is scheduled to be completed by mid-April, in time for the plants and grasses to grow.

There will also be a small pond as a special attraction.

Leaking roof of the Tölzer Jahnschule: Legal dispute with construction company costs around 1.8 million euros

The estimated total costs of the extension are 12.2 million euros.

“We are therefore within budget,” said Ernst.

This does not include the additional, unscheduled renovation of the school roof.

As reported, the new building was messed up during construction work in 2022 - the flat roof turned out to be leaking.

The façade of the Jahn primary school is decorated in a shingle look and beige color based on the traditional tower of the old building.

“The company carrying out the work did not produce it as they should have,” explained Mehner.

The city then had to have a temporary roof built for 150,000 euros until the dismantling and report were completed.

The city sued the Regensburg roofing company.

“Now we are waiting for the trial.” According to the city architect, the damage caused amounts to a total of 1.8 million euros.
