Even the biggest cleaning experts were shocked to discover that there is a hidden part of the bathroom that can be removed - and it hides a lot of dirt behind it.

Hazel McKinney and Claire Jenkins, known online as the We Scotty Cleaners, regularly share their tricks and tips for cleaning the house on TikTok.

In a video they published not long ago, they talked about the difficulty in cleaning the dirt around the overflow hole in the sinks in the bathroom.

What is a flood hole you ask?

The overflow hole in your sink is that drain opening at the top of the sink where the excess water pours out when the sink fills, to prevent it from filling up completely and causing an overflow if you've left the faucet on or have plumbing problems.

The overflow hole is actually a magnet for soap residue and the accumulation of dirt and over time you may suddenly smell unpleasant odors coming out of this little hole

.

In response to the video of the duo cleaning a sink, one of the viewers wrote to them: "You know this hole is falling apart and can be cleaned?"

The pair of cleaners tested it themselves and commented: "Thank you very much for this, we didn't know that. The time we spent walking around this hole to clean and now suddenly someone says it's coming down. It's really just the part that you can't reach, so after you take it down you can give Give it a little spray and also move a wipe there.

"It might take a while for it to come off, but pay attention that it happens and you can wash this whole part as well," they added: "So thank you very much for this little tip.

And we're sure that many people like us didn't know that."

If you happen to have mold or mildew build up in the sink overflow hole, it's going to leave you with a very nasty smell.

Hopefully your sink will never get to this point, but if it does you need to know how to deal with the stench.

You will need:

1 cup of baking soda powder

1 cup of distilled white vinegar

Two liters of boiling water

A funnel made of a material like silicone, which can withstand the temperature of boiling water and does not conduct heat

Stick the funnel in the overflow hole in the sink.

Pour the baking soda down the funnel.

After that, slowly pour the vinegar in the funnel (be prepared for it to ferment a little).

Let it sit for about 15 minutes so the baking soda and vinegar can work their deodorizing magic.

Carefully rinse the sink with the boiling water and pour it directly into the overflow hole.

Repeat as necessary if the smell remains.
