Hyundai is massively reducing electric car prices in Germany after the state environmental bonus was discontinued.

Several models are available cheaper for 7,000 euros.

Offenbach/Munich - After the state electric car bonus was abolished, car manufacturers on the German market are fighting for buyers' favor with other means: Hyundai, another company, is now significantly reducing electric car prices in this country.

The South Korean car manufacturer has temporarily reduced the purchase costs for three electric car models: The Hyundai models Kona as well as IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 are affected, each of which is 7,000 euros cheaper

Hyundai is reducing prices for electric car models - including best-selling SUVs

The Hyundai Kona is the brand's most popular model in Germany and, according to KBA statistics, was registered over 23,200 times last year.

Instead of starting at 41,990 euros, the small crossover is now available in the Kona Electric version for prices starting at 34,990 euros.

According to the price list, the electric cars from the IONIQ sub-brand cost at least 43,900 euros, and this price is also reduced by 7,000 euros to 36,900 euros.

The special feature of the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 models is the innovative 800-volt on-board system, which is accompanied by faster DC charging.

According to the manufacturer, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes at a (high-performance) charging station for up to 350 kilowatts.

Meanwhile, there is a fourth model series for which there is a price reduction: the Hyundai Tucson with combustion engines.

Hyundai models: Thousands of euros in discounts for electric cars - even when leasing

After the e-car bonus was abolished, other car manufacturers had already announced discount campaigns for electric cars in order to compensate for the abrupt elimination of the environmental bonus, which sometimes caused an uproar.

For some, however, this is limited to private customers, according to the

portal .

The discount campaign from Hyundai Germany (headquarters Offenbach), on the other hand, expressly also includes commercial buyers.

The prices of Hyundai models are not only shrinking when buying a car: the price advantage also comes into play when leasing electric car models.

Anyone who is interested in a new electric car from the Korean company should hurry up: the offer is limited until the end of the quarter and, according to the information, expires at the end of March 2024.

Hyundai offers delight car buyers - but also cause discontent

The South Korean car manufacturer explains that thanks to the discount campaign, the Kona will be even cheaper than it would have been with the government purchase bonus.

“In order to make the switch to electromobility as easy as possible, we (...) not only compensate for the federal government's lost funding for electric cars.

We offer one of the most modern and efficient SUVs to those who do not yet want to decide on electric vehicles (...),” says a press release.

Meanwhile, not all users are happy with the discount campaign from Hyundai, which ranked ninth among the best-selling manufacturers in Germany in 2023 (106,381 new registrations according to KBA statistics).

  • “Still way too expensive.

And it’s probably just the basic equipment without any extras.”

  • “Interesting, then I probably paid way too much for my IONIQ 6!!”

  • “With the high reliability of the brand, we are definitely in a position to make life difficult for our EU competitors.”
