To also allow the inhabitants of a small village in Sassari to participate in the regional elections on 25 February and in the European ones, the polling station will be set up in a house.
Exactly at home is Mrs Maria, a pensioner who for 100 euros a day has made an apartment available to the municipality of Sassari next to the one she lives in, so as to allow her small community, left without its usual seat, not to give up democratic life.
The story, anticipated by the newspaper La Nuova Sardegna, is set in Biancareddu, a tiny town in the Nurra, in the hinterland of Sassari.
The structure of the former elementary school is not available as it was undergoing a 170 thousand euro restyling and the village risked being left without a seat.
Hence an atypical solution.
"When our association presented me with this possible inconvenience, I didn't think twice about it, guaranteeing the availability of some of the premises I owned. I am therefore very happy with the success of the matter", explained Mrs. Maria.
