From Thursday 22 February until 31 July Casa Rossini in Pesaro hosts the exhibition "Ritrattorossiniani", promoted by the Rossini Foundation in collaboration with the Municipality of Pesaro, Mica, the Marche Region, Pesaro Museums, the National Rossini Museum, the "G. Rossini" State Conservatory of Music Pesaro, Rossini Opera Festiva and Amat.

The initiative is part of the Rossini Week in Pesaro 2024, which celebrates the birthday of Rossini, born on 29 February 1792.

The exhibition collects some of the images of the Pesaro maestro that history has handed down to us.

In the course of his long life, in fact, there were many portraits depicting Rossini, different in type and technique, from drawing to etching, from lithography to ink, from canvas to daguerreotype, to photography, up to, of course, sculptures.

The composer appears in official or colloquial poses, standing or sitting, alone or together with other musicians, the subject of caricatures that attest to his vast popularity, as well as satirically emphasizing his vices and virtues.

Also on display are some examples of the images contained in rare biographies dedicated to the author, in the scores of his compositions or accompanying celebratory articles appearing in newspapers, magazines and almanacs.

The exhibition itinerary is completed by the posters and publications of some editions of the Rossini Opera Festival, which regularly uses the various portraits of the author of The Barber of Seville in graphics, in continuity with the precious permanent historical heritage exhibited in his birthplace.

A tribute to the most illustrious citizen of Pesaro, in the year in which the city is the Italian Capital of Culture.

The exhibition is curated by Catia Amati, Lucia Ferrati and Maria Chiara Mazzi with the kind collaboration of Sergio Ragnie Luigi Cuoco.
