Tact was required during an operation by the Tölzer fire brigade on Tuesday morning.

A man and his bestie found themselves in a more than awkward situation.

Bad Tölz - fires, traffic accidents, oil leaks, people stuck in elevators or even in a baby swing - the Tölz fire department helps in many situations.

But the mission that the volunteers had to complete early on Tuesday morning probably also falls under the category of: rather unusual for them.

The alarm sounded quite harmless: technical assistance was requested around 5:20 a.m. - from the employees in the emergency room of the Asklepios City Clinic.

A man appeared there with his best piece stuck in a metal ring.

Ring made of solid stainless steel causes hospital employees to fail

“They didn't make any progress with their resources,” says the Tölz commander, describing why the clinic employees finally had to call the fire department for help.

In fact, it was “a really massive ring made of stainless steel,” says Fuchsgruber.

“I would estimate: three centimeters wide and half a centimeter thick.” They first had to think about what equipment the fire department could use to help here.

As a rule, it's more about serious things, says the commander.

“But our equipment manager was also on site and had already brought the right thing with him.”

Fire department uses three saw blades

A multitool with an oscillating attachment was used.

“You can use it to cut wood or metal,” says Fuchsgruber.

“We then cut the ring open with the greatest possible care.” This was necessary in two places because the solid metal could not be bent open.

They tried to protect the skin with gauze bandages.

At the same time, water cooling was carried out so that the metal did not get hot when sawing.

All of this took time.

“We had to keep taking breaks and used up three saw blades,” says Fuchsgruber.

But after an hour and a half it was done and the man was freed from his more than unfortunate situation.

The use will probably be billed to the person affected

The commander cannot remember a comparable mission.

“But something like this happens from time to time - although perhaps not with us.” For the person affected - according to Fuchsgruber he is uninjured - the whole thing could now have financial repercussions.

He still has to check the fire brigade law, but he actually assumes that the city will bill the man for the operation.

Six firefighters were on site.
