The sports hall in Eichenau is dilapidated and renovation is inevitable.
The hair of the sports officials stands on end.
Other halls are completely full.
Eichenau
– The renovation of the Budriohalle in Eichenau is overdue and costs an estimated 6.9 million euros.
Despite the local council's decision, it remains uncertain when the work will be completed.
However, sports operations will almost certainly be influenced.
Some people speak of a death knell because halls are scarce everywhere.
(
By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular
FFB newsletter.)
Just looking at the hall floor causes Gerhard Fink pain.
“It’s terrible how the hall is slowly rotting,” says the head of the handball department at Eichenauer SV.
Dents on the edges of the hall floor and loose covers are just details.
But they are a symbol of the fact that the hall floor has never been renewed since the sports facility opened in 1989.
In addition to the handball players, the volleyball and Indiaca players have to cope with it somehow.
This is what the hall looks like from the outside.
The sports facility was opened in 1989.

Handball boss at the local council meeting
Fink is what you would call a seasoned sports official.
He is familiar with regulations and formalities.
But after the most recent local council meeting, which he followed closely, he shook his head: “Local politics is sometimes difficult to understand,” is his conclusion from a discussion that focused a lot on renovation options, federal programs and requirements for subsidies.
Of the 6.95 million euros in costs, 2.17 euros are subsidized from the federal funding pot “Renovation of municipal facilities in the areas of sport, youth and culture”.
However, the municipality itself has to raise 4.78 million euros.
At this point and in view of the budget situation, the CSU in particular will suffer.
The soil is considered one of the problem children.

Michael Wölfl therefore suggested only doing what was necessary.
That would be cheaper even without subsidies.
Especially since Wölfl fears based on many experiences, for example with schools: “It certainly won’t stay at just under seven million.”
For sports speaker Elmar Ströhmer (FW), also chairman of the ESV general club, reason enough to note that “we are finally at least doing the hall floor”.
Ströhmer combined this with the smug remark: “We have been discussing this topic for 20 years.”
The same applies to the expansion of spectator capacity, which is currently limited to 199.
But Eichenau has long wanted to convert the hall into a meeting place.
According to insiders, up to 300 fans could be accommodated in the stands alone.
The demands of department head Fink are modest.
“New floor, new heating, increase spectator capacity.
That’s good.” That would probably have the least impact on the game.
“This work could be carried out in the summer months.”
He meets with understanding from the community.
“The schedule will be a criterion in the tenders and expressed as our express wish,” emphasizes Mayor Peter Münster (independent) when asked by Rike Schiele (Greens).
But he didn't want it to be understood as a guarantee, the mayor told our newspaper.
Every hall is fully occupied
According to the municipality's ideas, the overall package of measures should be carried out as coherently as possible.
Even replacing the floor would take four months alone.
For Fink, it would be like a horror vision if one had to move out of the hall again - as was the case in 2022 when the sports facility was converted into refugee accommodation.
The ESV teams trained alternately in Gröbenzell, Fürstenfeldbruck and Unterpfaffenhofen.
“That cost us a lot of members.
Now that would be close to a death blow,” explains Fink.
After all, every hall is fully occupied.
Majority for complete renovation
Nevertheless, there was around a two-thirds majority in favor of the complete renovation.
“We should use the funding,” said Ulrich Bode (FDP).
It must be seen that renovation can save repairs and other follow-up costs.
“The measure can be seen over a period of 20 years.”
The Bundestag members Karsten Klein (FDP), Daniel Föst (FDP), Michael Schrodi (SPD), Beate Walter-Rosenheimer (Greens) and Katrin Staffler (CSU) supported the application for the grant two years ago.
The content was fire protection upgrades, energy-saving renovations, the creation of barrier-free access and approval as a meeting place.
