The Herrsching local council wants to charge fees for additional public parking areas.

At the most recent meeting, the committee did not agree on which additional areas parking should cost in the future.

Herrsching - After an initial review, the administration presented a proposal on Monday evening to expand parking space management on public traffic areas.

However, during the vote on individual park areas, some local council members expressed doubts about whether it makes sense to use the list presented as a basis for the decision.

It is the result of a building committee resolution from December 2023, which stipulated that parking areas and bays that had already been marked should be considered for expanded parking space management.

Make parking fees fair

Local councilor Wolfgang Schneider (SPD) thinks it makes sense to set up machines where the community has already invested in building parking bays.

He described the current situation as “unfair” because parking fees are charged on some streets and not on others.

Parking machines for busy streets in Herrsching

Christiane Gruber (BGH) would be available to include heavily frequented streets in parking space management.

She observed that in areas where parking costs were already incurred, there was always a free parking space.

Wolfgang Schneider advised starting on Schönbichlstrasse.

Twelve council members supported introducing parking fees there in an initial vote, and just as many spoke out against it.

Where are parking meters useful?

Numerous council members support the expansion of parking space management and in the end voted 13:11 to have it clarified before a final decision is made where it would be expedient to set up machines.

For example, where businesses benefited from the fact that cars are no longer allowed to be parked permanently.

And on heavily frequented roadways such as Kienbachstrasse, in the transition to Fischergasse, as well as in the parking bay at the landing stage and on Baderstrasse, if the local park-and-ride area allows this.

The parking bays on Mitterweg and in Reineckestraße at the cemetery were also discussed, but were considered difficult for parking space management in terms of alternative options.

In this case, a certain length of stay should be free for cemetery visitors, it was said.

Relocation of long-term parkers undesirable

No machines should be installed in areas far from the center where controls cannot be ensured and cars are therefore permanently parked.

Roland Lübeck (CSU), among others, spoke out in favor of this because residents would otherwise be punished.

Alexander Keim (FDP) is critical of the expansion of parking space management: “It affects the wrong people,” people who don’t have a lot of money.

He also believes that the change is “a losing proposition”.

Second mayor Christina Reich (CSU) called for no machines on Schönbichlstrasse, but some on Kienbachstrasse: In the future, the parked trailers and caravans would simply be moved from one street to the other.
