T he Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, had promised, in his inauguration speech delivered last December, to
“clean out this Augean stable”
left by the previous power
“with its contempt for procedures, the law and good morals”.
He's been working on it for two months.
And relations between Warsaw and the EU, notoriously tense since 2015 against a backdrop of repeated attacks on the rule of law, are warming up a little more every day.
A new stage in this reconciliation was reached on Tuesday in Brussels.
Polish ministers were on hand to present to their counterparts in charge of European Affairs the plan that their government wants to put in place to restore the rule of law, badly damaged during the eight years in power of the conservative and sovereignist Law and Justice party ( PiS).
