Three days after the death of Alexeï Navalny in still murky circumstances, while he was detained in a Russian penal colony in the Arctic, President Vladimir Putin promoted by decree several senior officials of the Ministry of Justice.
On February 19, the deputy director of the federal penitentiary service, Valery Gennadievich Boyarinev, was elevated to the rank of colonel-general, according to the portal of official publications of the Russian Federation, equivalent of the French Official Journal.
It is the third highest rank in the Russian military hierarchy, after those of field marshal and army general.
The same decree also promoted the deputy director of the Federal Bailiff Service (FSSP), Olga Pomigalova, and the deputy head of the Investigative Committee, Sergei Goryainov, both elevated to the same rank.
These bodies are respectively responsible for law enforcement and judicial investigations within the Ministry of Justice.

The gray areas surrounding the death of Alexeï Navalny make his supporters say that the Russian regime is trying to cover up an assassination.
His widow, Yulia Navalnaïa, directly accused Vladimir Putin of having her husband killed in prison.
The Western world also judged the master of the Kremlin responsible for this death, which his spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, firmly denied.
Concerning the promotion of the three senior officials of the Ministry of Justice just three days after the event, the spokesperson spoke of a routine procedure.
