2024-02-20T14:43:29.892Z

Highlights: A French TikTok account called @abregefrere is accused of wanting to silence women. He makes short videos of people telling their stories on social networks, summarizing them in a few seconds. Many women whose videos have been abridged complain of being harassed in the comments of their videos by men who ask them to keep quiet. If more than a quarter of the shortened stories published on its social networks come from content published by men, it is the comments from @abre gefrere fans which are mainly denounced.

The concept of the @abregefrere account is to make a short summary of “too long” videos circulating on social networks.

Fight against videos that are too long.

The content creator simply called @abregefrere experienced immediate success on social networks thanks to his very short videos.

Inspired by foreign TikTokers, he decided to create content in which he takes videos of people telling their stories on social networks, summarizing them in a few seconds.

If one-minute videos have made TikTok popular, the social network has for some time allowed you to publish longer videos, up to three minutes.

If this made some users happy, others like @abregefrere consider them “too long”.

This is why the latter decided to make abbreviated videos, specifying each time how much time he saved his subscribers.

His way of doing things is always the same.

He leaves the creator's original catchphrase before cutting it in editing to appear in front of the camera, with a blasé tone, and briefly summarize the story and reveal the punchline in a few seconds.

He then adds his personal touch by loudly taking a sip of coffee to conclude the video.

So many ingredients that made the French videographer's immediate success.

The latter has more than a million subscribers just a few days after creating his account.

If the content offered remains “good-natured”, because @abregefrere never criticizes the basic video or its author, some Internet users criticize him for criticizing the vast majority of content created by women and therefore wanting to silence them.

“You are a big misogynist”

In a video posted on TikTok, influencer Chloé Gervais accuses him of being misogynistic.

“At the very least, you don't give a damn that your content has normalized telling girls who are doing their little story time and their makeup tutorial to shut their mouths.

At the most it tells me that you are a big misogynist,” she commented, subsequently attracting a large wave of hatred on social networks.

Women harassed by his fans

Contacted by the Huff Post, a content creator named Inès denounced “death threats” as well as comments indicating that “women who talk too much should no longer have the right to speak”.

When the @abregefrere account was partially banned in mid-February, she was even deemed responsible and then criticized by many Internet users with comments like: “girls, you ruin everything, you have no sense of humor, etc..”

".

“Now as soon as there is a girl who talks for more than a minute on TikTok, and her TikTok works well, you are sure to find at least 5 comments from people who will tag @abregefrere”, denounces for her part influencer Alena, who admits that she found the concept funny when she first started.
