Like the Ebersberg secondary school, the street in front of it also takes its name from Josef Wintrich.

The Green parliamentary group has now objected to the naming with a motion.

The Green group wanted Dr.

Rename Wintrich Street to Ebersberg.

Reason: The namesake is said to have been a follower of the National Socialists.

But now the party rowed back again.

Ebersberg - The discussion on the Ebersberg Greens' proposal to rename Dr.-Wintrich-Straße was eagerly awaited because the past of its namesake may be different than previously assumed.

In the district town, not only is a street named after Josef Wintrich, but also the secondary school.

Application from the Greens: The namesake is said to have been a follower of the National Socialists

The lawyer, who was born in 1891 and later a judge at the Federal Constitutional Court, was senior district judge at the Ebersberg District Court from November 1933.

In Ebersberg he was previously considered an opponent, or at least a critic, of the National Socialists.

The latest research casts doubt on this picture.

Wintrich could possibly have been a follower.

Because of these doubts, the Greens requested that Dr.-Wintrich-Straße be renamed.

The application should now be discussed in the city council’s environmental, social and cultural committee.

But that didn't happen, because the historian's investigation will last until the end of 2025, as the non-party city councilor Michael Schulte-Langforth informed.

The application was therefore withdrawn again.

Discussions will now be made based on the results of the historical investigation.

“Research is not necessary”: Mayor Proske nips discussions in the bud

The meeting template pointed out that they had already spoken to the district administrator Thomas Warg and the head of the Grafing city museum, Bernhard Schäfer.

“Both are of the opinion that there are no compelling reasons for renaming the street in this case,” says the submission, which included a negative proposed resolution, including the words “further research is not necessary.”

We'll see in two years whether it stays that way.

In any case, Mayor Ulrich Proske (non-party) nipped a discussion about the complex topic that arose in the most recent committee meeting in the bud, because the withdrawal of the Greens' motion meant that such a discussion was at least obsolete at the moment, he said.
