A company wants to build asylum accommodation for almost 350 people in Olching.

However, the city firmly rejects the project.

Olching – The dimension is enormous.

A company wants to build a container settlement on Mayor-Grässmann-Straße in the Esting district of Olching.

There will be space for a total of 344 refugees in three-story buildings spread over four units.

They will be accommodated in 136 rooms with a total area of over 4,200 square meters.

The facility will be used for ten years.

Formal reasons

However, the city administration and the members of the city council's building committee are anything but enthusiastic about the plans.

As building authority manager Markus Brunnhuber explained to the elected officials, there are numerous formal reasons against the approval.

The town and landscape are being defaced by the massive development.

The property for the facility borders on the one hand on a parking lot in the commercial area and on the other hand on a residential area, mostly built up with terraced houses.

The accommodation is also exposed to noise and fine dust from the adjacent federal road and the twelve necessary parking spaces are not proven.

The prescribed distance between the buildings was also not maintained.

Fear of overload

Furthermore, the development of the property is not sufficiently secured.

Small, narrow residential streets would have to be used to access the area, which is not sufficient, especially during the construction phase.

There is only a footpath and cycle path coming from the adjacent commercial area, which is not suitable for shooting.

There are currently not quite 400 refugees living in Olching, spread across several accommodations, two of which are larger units with around 100 and around 80 places respectively.

The number of refugees in Olching would roughly double as a result of the requested accommodation.

This would pose major problems, especially for the city's schools and children's facilities, as a city spokeswoman explained some time ago.

So far, all children and young people in Olching have been accommodated in schools and daycare centers.

If an accommodation with 344 places were to be added, “such concentrated accommodation would completely overload the child and youth educational infrastructure”.

The city announced some time ago that it wanted to defend itself against the accommodation.
