The Hellers brewery in Cologne will stop producing its beer varieties after the summer of 2024.

Kölsch has also been brewed on Roonstrasse for 33 years.

Cologne - There is currently a lot of movement on the Kölsch market and has been for months - be it the market entry of the new Kölsch variety Rut-Wieß Kölsch or the announcement that Böll beer will no longer be served in Cologne pubs in the future.

Now the Cologne brewery Hellers has also turned to its followers with news - but boss Anna Heller doesn't have any good news with her.

“I have to contact you today with the sad news that after 33 years we have to stop producing our Hellers beers on Roonstrasse,” she explains in a video on social media.

Hellers boss announces brewery closure – “we did a lot of calculations back and forth”

This means that in the future, neither Kölsch, Wiess, Pilsner, Weizen or anything similar will be produced on the street not far from the always busy Zülpicher Straße in the Cologne city center district.

The Hellers boss explains the reasons: “We did a lot of calculations back and forth, but the increased raw material prices and the incredibly high investment backlog leave us no other option than to stop production,” says Heller, with a tear or two in her eye .

“It is simply no longer economical for us, even if we had hope until the end that we could do it.”

Despite the end of Hellers beers: the brewery and Volksgarten in Cologne are still open

Heller Brewery has been brewing organic beers since 1991

► The Heller brewery has been brewing organic quality beers since 1991; all of the Heller brewery's beers bear the organic seal (DE-ÖKO-013).

► “It all started with the naturally cloudy Wiess, which is considered the original beer of the city of Cologne.

Of course, Kölsch has now become an integral part of the brewery's portfolio.

The range is supplemented by various other varieties,” explains the brewery itself.

► The beers available until the end of summer, when the brewery closes, are Kölsch, Wiess, Pils Naturcloud, Light and Saisonal Weizen and Bock.

They want to help the employees find new jobs – “but I’m not worried about that because we have the coolest and best ones around,” says Heller.

There is, however, a bit of good news: the Hellers Brauhaus and the Volksgarten will remain open in the future.

Just without the Hellers beers, which will be tapped for the last time at the end of next summer.

“We hope that you will all come by again by then and drink us dry,” said Heller.

“We are sad, and you probably are too.

Thank you for 33 years – and here’s to a new one, whatever comes next.”
