On the quays of the port of Guilvinec-Léchiagat (Finistère), this Wednesday, February 21, there is still a gloomy atmosphere, just like pouring rain, between two gusts, despite the authorization for 450 ships to be able to return to sea. The NGOs had obtained one month of closure of the Bay of Biscay to fishing for boats of 8 m and over in order to avoid captures and therefore preserve the common dolphin.
Fishermen, like all professions linked to fishing (fishmongers, workers, fishmongers, etc.), are looking gloomy despite the end of this long and unprecedented one-month break.
“At Guil’, the entire sector was faced with a real drop in activity.
But combined with the fishing crisis in general, it is still too early to draw up figures,” says a shipowner, who prefers, like many professionals here, to remain anonymous.
