"We welcome with satisfaction the words spoken by the Minister of the Environment, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, who has taken a position against the killing policy endorsed by some well-known political-institutional circles".
The National Animal Protection Agency (Enpa) declared this in a press release.
"In this regard - continues the NGO - we believe that sterilization is a tool to be used as an extremaratio, and that its application must be studied case by case, in depth and detail, and without endangering the safety of the animals. However, it is a palliative which acts only on a demographic level, on the numerical composition of the populations alone (which is not excessive, given the high mortality of the cubs), and which therefore does not optimize coexistence with plantigrades. However, we reiterate to the minister our full willingness to collaborate for the management "cruelty free" of the relationship between man and wild animals, the only right, dutiful and possible.
"We completely agree with the minister - adds Enpa - when he, expressly referring to anti-bear bins, underlines the importance of adopt appropriate prevention measures to prevent animals from becoming confident. For a long time we have been asking the Provinces of Trento and Bolzano to focus on prevention and to inform citizens and residents about the behaviors to follow for correct coexistence.
Unfortunately, our requests have so far remained largely unheard, since the real objective of calling you administrators does not seem to build coexistence with the bears, but to take up arms".
