The energy giant Eon has reformulated its self-image.
The company now wants to be no less than the “playmaker” of the energy transition.
The new slogan is: “It's on us” - It's up to us.
Essen - Germany's largest energy supplier and distribution network operator Eon has emphasized its claim to leadership in the energy transition.
“We aspire to be a leading driver and designer of the accelerated energy transition in Europe, the playmaker of the European energy transition,” said Eon boss Leonhard Birnbaum on Tuesday evening at the E-World energy trade fair in Essen.
Eon is a company that is setting the course for the transition to a sustainable energy system with its networks and decarbonization solutions.
“We are not just an energy transition company.
We are the company that makes the energy transition possible,” said Birnbaum.
Birnbaum pointed out the importance of the power grids.
“Over 95 percent of all renewable energy systems in Germany are connected to the distribution network, a large proportion of them to the Eon network.” Eon recently connected its one millionth system to the network.
By 2030, another six million new systems and decentralized consumers would have to be connected to the Eon network.
“Energy transition at Eon means making huge investments in the infrastructure, the networks.
They make up over 75 percent of our business.”
According to its own information, Eon is one of the largest distribution network operators in Europe with around 1.6 million kilometers of electricity and gas lines in nine European countries.
The company is the largest distribution network operator in Germany.
Eon operates almost 700,000 kilometers of the almost 1.9 million kilometers of electricity network.
There are also 100,000 kilometers of gas network.
Energy transition and decarbonization - i.e. the move away from coal, oil and natural gas - are the central challenges, argued Birnbaum.
Since Russia's attack on Ukraine, security of supply and affordability have again been at the center of the debate.
“Energy can no longer be taken for granted.” During these times, expectations of Eon as a supplier and a European company also changed.
“Customers, investors and society are looking for someone who will take responsibility.”
In line with the newly formulated leadership claim, the company has changed its slogan.
It reads: “It's on us”.
“I am deeply convinced that it is really up to us to get the new energy going and to become the playmaker of the energy transition,” said the manager.
