Through its conquests on all the seas of the Globe, the Royal Navy had given the kingdom an empire and global influence.
At a time of Brexit and “Global Britain”, where the country freed from its European chains must turn again towards the open sea, the British navy is supposed to regain a leading role.
Alas, the setbacks are piling up and the spectacular flop of a nuclear-capable Trident ballistic missile is yet another snub.
The failure, the second in a row, is doubly unfortunate.
It raises doubts about the capabilities of the navy but also about the British nuclear deterrent.
At a time when London is flexing its muscles against Russia and the Chinese navy is seriously gaining strength, this weakness is creating disorder.
Even if the British authorities assure, in essence, that if they were to fire a missile “for real”, this one…
