Pollution from fine particles PM10 and PM 2.5 has decreased in Italy in the last ten years, but insufficiently.
PM 10 concentrations dropped by 45% between 2013 and 2022 (-2.1% per year), but in 2022 the daily limit value of national legislation was exceeded in 20% of cases.
Italy is far from falling below the (very ambitious) limits for fine particles recommended by the WHO.
This was revealed by the 4th Environment Report of the SNPA, the National System for the Protection of the Environment, the network formed by national ISPRA and regional ARPA.
