The German government sharply lowered its economic growth forecast for the current year on Wednesday, now counting on an increase of 0.2% in gross domestic product (GDP) against 1.3% previously, against a backdrop of the multifactorial crisis affecting the leading European economy.

“At the start of this year, the German economy is still in a difficult situation
,” commented Steffen Hebestreit, government spokesperson, at a press conference.
