Greenhouse gas emissions in Italy have reduced by 20% compared to 1990, but in 2021 they saw an increase of 8.5% compared to the previous year, after the setback in 2020 due to the pandemic.
This was revealed in the SNPA's fourth Environment Report, presented today in Rome.
In 2021, there were 4 climate change adaptation strategies approved, two more than in 2018. The only approved plan (containing the measures to implement the strategy), as in 2018, is that of the Lombardy Region.
From the analysis of the 2004-2020 trend it emerges that the use of renewable energy has increased and the share has almost tripled in the period considered: from 6.3% in 2004 it went to 20.4% in 2020, with a value higher than EU target of 17% assigned to Italy.
