After long preparations, steel girders for the new Glonn Bridge in Schlipps have now been placed on the foundations.

A spectacular sight for the spectators.

Hohenkammer

- It was a big bridge day in the Schlipps district in the Hohenkammer community: four steel girders floated onto the foundation of the new bridge over the Glonn on Monday.

As one of the most prominent German construction companies, the executing company Max Bögl is usually used to construction sites of different sizes - such as bridges over eight-lane highways or the current construction of the freight station in Regensburg.

The tender in Schlipps, on the other hand, appealed to the company because of the technical planning with two steel girders and the foundations on both sides of the Glonn: In contrast to the stone bridge that had previously been used for 100 years, there is now no longer a pillar in the stream bed.

The heart of the new structure are four steel girders with a length of over 35 meters.

The two middle steel beams each weigh 42 tons, the two outer ones still weigh 34 tons.

The four girders were manufactured by the Max Bögl company in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz and then transported to Hohenkammer overnight on heavy transport.

Here's to the next 100 years: The foundation stone for the new Glonn Bridge was laid last year.

The special crane used also had superlatives for the community.

This can lift up to 450 tons and extend its arm up to 83 meters - so moving the steel beams was a piece of cake.

Nevertheless, the measure took significantly longer than planned.

Actually everything was supposed to be done by lunchtime, but it took the whole day.

“The work is going very well here,” said Mayor Mario Berti, who looked at the impressive action on site.

Currently fully on schedule

After the steel beams have been laid, completion should now go quickly.

The areas for the supply pipes and the road are placed on the substructure.

Then all that's missing are the railings.

The bridge is scheduled to open to traffic in June.

The construction site is currently right on schedule - and when it comes to costs, there are also many signs that it will be on point.

The municipality expects 3.8 million euros including the engineering services.

Part of this is funded by the government of Upper Bavaria - especially because the town is on one side of the bridge and the fire department on the other.

After the new bridge in Schlipps was built, there is a need for further renovation with a bridge in Deutldorf and two structures in Herschenhofen.

However, community manager Marco Unruh explained: “We will not receive any subsidies for these bridges.”
