Deadlines are met, protocol is respected. However, one detail is stuck. After the resignation of four opposition elected officials, the municipal council

It happened almost four days later.

If they had formalized their resignation earlier, the members of the opposition citizen group Demain Gentilly would have complicated the election of Patricia Tordjman's (PCF) successor.

After 16 years at the head of the town hall, the latter informed residents that she was leaving office, in a public letter dated February 8, justifying her decision by “the choice of renewal for the city”.

Once accepted by the prefect on February 8, her resignation from the mandate of mayor took effect immediately, and Patricia Tordjman was provisionally replaced by her first deputy Fatah Aggoune (PCF app.).

In all likelihood, he should be elected mayor during the municipal council meeting on Saturday March 2.

“We are simply preparing very classic installation advice,” says his office.

This is of course a very important moment, but there are no surprises in sight.

If the municipal council was convened within the allotted period of fifteen days, it must be complete to proceed with the election of the new mayor... However, the four councilors of the opposition group Demain Gentilly resigned after the municipal council on Thursday 23 november.

A mosque project on the Plateau then raised the debate about the lack of consultation among the neighborhood's residents and transparency on the part of the municipality.

A grain of sand in the oiled wheels of succession

The withdrawal of the four municipal councilors concerned, who did not wish to respond to our requests, was announced by an article in the municipal newspaper.

After the resignation of Patricia Tordjman, some citizens were concerned about holding a by-election, so that the municipal council would be complete to be able to elect a new mayor.

But the devil is in the details, in this case in the dates: the resignations did take place, but were officially notified to the town hall and the prefecture on February 11, more than two months after their announcement to the population... and four days after that of the mayor.

However, the prefecture ruled this Tuesday: “The completeness of the municipal council for the election of the mayor is assessed on the date on which the resignation of the mayor becomes definitive”.

This means that as the resignations of councilors took place after this date, they are not taken into account, and the election of the mayor can therefore be held on March 2.

More than 200 people are expected for an extraordinary session at 9:30 a.m. at the Maurice Baquet gymnasium.
