To explain the victory of the Muslim Brotherhood in 2011, many insisted that their own mobilization before and during the Arab Spring allowed them to win the elections.
In Egypt, social movements had started five years earlier, and the Muslim Brotherhood, which was already a political force at the time, never supported them.
