Irregularities were found during 76.48% of inspections made in the construction sector in 2023, Labor Minister Marina Calderone told cabinet in a briefing on workplace safety on Wednesday.
This figure turns to 85.2% for companies "engaged in works related to the 110% superbonus" incentive for green renovations, added.
Calderone said last year a total of 92,658 inspections were carried out in the construction sector.
Of these, 20,755, or over 22% of the total, were related to health and safety issues, up by 3,720 compared to 2022, sheadded.
The minister said the National Labor Inspectorate currently boasts 3,198 inspectors, of whom 846 are technical experts, in addition to the personnel of the Carabinieri special inspectionunit, national social security institute Inps and nationalinstitute for insurance against accidents at work Inail.
With the current workforce, Calderone told cabinet it will be possible to increase inspections by 40% in 2024 over last year, while more inspectors will be recruited.
Her briefing came in the wake of last Friday's structural collapse at a supermarket under construction in Florence that left five workers dead and three more seriously injured.
