The police recorded over 230 “pilot trips” after the Siko in Munich.
A passer-by shared a picture of a protective measure.
Munich – Last weekend (February 16th to 18th) there was a state of emergency in the state capital.
For the 60th time, high-ranking government representatives as well as experts from the military and science met at the Munich Security Conference (Siko).
Around 5,000 police officers were responsible for protecting the event.
Sometimes unusual security measures were used, as a woman from Munich noticed.
Siko in Munich: Passer-by discovers protective measures
“How you can tell that there is Siko in Munich,” she wrote about a picture on her X channel.
You can see a standard post box with two labeled slots that will be familiar to Munich residents: “Postal code 80000 – 81999” and “other postal code”.
But the mailbox doors have been removed.
Letters would therefore have ended up in there completely unprotected.
A precautionary measure so that no one can leave a dangerous item there?
The Munich police confirmed the X user's suspicions at the request of our editorial team.
“It is obvious that this location was within the security area or on the route of a high-ranking guest,” writes a spokesman regarding the image.
This is also supported by a point that the photographer did not explicitly refer to: “An additional clue is the sealed lid, which can be seen on the floor.”
Around 5,000 police officers secure Siko in Munich
The police had repeatedly cordoned off routes for high-ranking state guests to arrive and onward.
For safety reasons, information about the affected routes was usually provided at short notice.
The Munich police recorded over 230 so-called “pilot trips” by conference participants after the Siko was completed.
The approximately 5,000 civil servants were challenged on many fronts.
They checked and sealed around 1,200 manhole covers, installed almost 800 barriers and carried out protective measures in 18 hotels.
