Organ donations: why more women are volunteering

Highlights: Women are far more likely than men to donate to organ and tissue transplantation. In June 2023, only 35% of people newly registered on the voluntary donor register were men, compared to 65% women. In France, between 2013 and 2017, women represented 62% of kidney donations and 34% of recipients. According to the recent report from the Biomedicine Agency on the figures for the activity of harvesting, organ and tissue transplantation in 2023, the fairer sex remains significantly more numerous than men to mobilize to give of their alive.
