A teacher from the Pothier high school in Orléans was attacked by a first grade STMG student in the middle of class on Monday February 19,

learned this Wednesday in a press release from the Orléans rectorate, confirming information from
France Bleu
.
The high school student was suspended and a
“disciplinary procedure is underway”
, specifies the rectorate which denounces
“an unacceptable event”.

The student had her phone confiscated by her teacher during class.
The teenager then violently tried to retrieve it, injuring the teacher in the head.
“It’s not the first time she’s had her cell phone confiscated, she looks at it all the time.
But what is surprising is this violence.
It’s like an addiction,”
Sylvie Lesné, high school French teacher and SNES-FSU union representative,
told Le
Parisien .
Teachers on strike this Tuesday
The rectorate recalls that
“every teacher must be respected”
and that
“these facts are unacceptable and intolerable.”
Gilles Halbout, rector of the Orléans-Tours academy and the rectorate services provided their
“total and unconditional support”
to the professor victim of the attack, as well as to all the staff.
The academy also requested
“the legal protection of the civil servant”
and set up listening cells for teachers from this Tuesday, February 20, and from today for students, the press release further specifies.
The teachers demonstrated this Tuesday morning in the high school courtyard to denounce the attack on their colleague,
the Orléans rectorate told Le
Figaro , which specified that classes were able to resume this Wednesday.
