Those arrested were released due to lack of grounds for detention - investigations are ongoing

The investigation began on Friday (February 16) when indications emerged that a group apparently belonging to the right-wing extremist scene was planning an attack on a citizen in Wetzlar.

Further criminal investigations confirmed these indications.

The group planned to attack the man in his apartment.

Before the attack could take place, the five people were arrested by civilians from the Hessian police in Wetzlar.

Various evidence was secured.

The police did not provide any information about the target of the attack.

After identifying their identities, identifying them and taking further police measures, the detainees were released due to lack of grounds for detention.

The investigation is ongoing.

Hesse's authorities are fighting right-wing extremism

The Hessian security authorities say they are consistently implementing measures to combat right-wing extremism.

Particularly noteworthy is the “Special Organization (BAO) Hessen R”, which was set up in 2019 and has introduced numerous innovative measures and analysis tools in recent years to increase the pressure on the right-wing extremist scene.

Since the “BAO Hessen R” was founded, over 620 police operations have been carried out against the right-wing scene in Hesse, including over 500 searches and around 24,900 seizures.

In 2023 alone, 134 search warrants were executed, which led to the seizure of weapons and Nazi memorabilia.
