Paris – Even right-wing populists don’t always agree.
Co-AfD leader Alice Weidel met with Marine Le Pen from the French right-wing party Rassemblement National (RN) on Wednesday (February 20).
The background is disagreements about migration policy and “remigration”.
“We discussed many political issues and found that we pursue the same approaches to solving the major problems of today,” wrote Weidel on the X platform. She thanked her for the “warm welcome” in Paris.

AfD meeting with right-wing extremists triggers criticism from LePen
There were tensions between the two right-wing parties after reporting on the controversial conference in Potsdam, which was also said to have been about the mass deportation of migrants from Germany.
Le Pen, leader of the RN parliamentary group in the French National Assembly, then made critical comments about the AfD.
The French politician said she saw herself in clear contradiction to what was said to have been discussed there.
“We will have to discuss such important differences together ... and see whether these differences ... have an impact on our ability to unite in a group or not,” she said, referring to the previous group community in the European Parliament ( EP) announced.
AfD denies plans to deport German citizens
This is primarily about ideas about a so-called remigration policy that the AfD should pursue.

Weidel made her position clear at the meeting.
Programmatically there are no differences between Weidel and the RN.
RN and AfD before some elections
In the EP, the RN and AfD belong together to the right-wing Identity and Democracy faction, whose members also include the Lega in Italy and the FPÖ in Austria.
Le Pen wants to make another attempt to win the presidential election in France in 2027.
The AfD is in second place nationwide in polls in Germany - according to the new survey with 19 percent.
A conflict between both parties would significantly weaken the parliamentary group in the EP.
